I have a scratch on the outside of my car, how do I remove it?
If a scratch can be felt with your fingernail it's gone past the clear coat making it a very hard fix for an amateur at home. If you brush up against something like another car or pole, oftentimes what you have is paint transfer and that can often be removed but the deep scratches cannot. Even as a professional deep scratches can be tricky and sometimes beyond what is offered as a detailer. For surface scratches that are not deep, using a dual action polisher and medium foam pad apply a cut and polish to your pad and make a crosshatch pattern over the area. The cost of a polisher and supplies is usually more than simply coming in to J9's Luxury Auto Detailing.
What's the difference between buffing and polishing?
For simplicity sake we will say they are very similar with the difference being the pad and compound used. Generally buffing is done with wool bonnets and polishing with foam pads. If done incorrectly both can cause serious harm to your clear coat and in some instances burn through completely. Your clear coat is less than a post-it not thick, we regularly see customers come to us after they've attempted themselves. How do I get road paint off?
Our tried and true method of removal is a mechanical decontamination process we do use a paint luber and clay bar. You could do this at home just be careful not to press too hard and use a clay bar with less grit, usually yellow or blue. Mead the clay every so often to give you a clean surface to work with. If you drop your clay, throw it away, do not risk destroying your paint with contamination.
Paint Enhancement vs Paint Polish?
A paint enhancement is applied with a usually a medium to soft polishing pad and a dual action polisher. We allow a sealant to sit on your car's surface for a period of about 20 minutes before wiping it off. It will fill in some light scratches temporarily and really add a lot of depth and shine to tired paint. A polish will actually remove a micro level of clear coat removing or reducing surface imperfections. It is important to let professionals handle this as having a new clear coat applied will cost you several thousand dollars.
